Today, 29th August, was a joyful and historic moment for the Catholic Diocese of Uromi as three of her sons were ordained to the sacred priesthood at St. Anthony Cathedral, Uromi.
The ordination was conferred by the Chief Shepherd of the Diocese, Most Rev. Dr. Donatus Ogun, upon the successful completion of their seminary formation.
In his homily, Rev. Fr. Abraham Ugese (OCD) reminded those to be ordained that priestly fatherhood is a call to responsibility. He urged them to exercise their ministry with humility and obedience, and to faithfully live out what they preach.
He further encouraged them to remain firmly connected to Christ through prayer, especially when the demands of priestly ministry and life become overwhelming.
The newly ordained priests are:
- Rev. Fr. Sylvester Antiemoria Iria
- Rev. Fr. Richard Osezele Eimuen
- Rev. Fr. Ignatius Oseremenkhian Ehiane
The ordination ceremony was well attended by priests, religious and lay faithful from within and outside the Diocese, as well as family members, friends and visitors who came to witness and share in this grace-filled moment.
Worthy of note was also the presence of His Royal Highness, Theophilus Osobase II (the Onojie of Egoro kingdom), His Royal Highness Dominic Uwuigbowen Otokikhine I. (the Onojie of Urohi Kingdom), together with other chiefs and dignitaries.
Following the Holy Mass was a reception hosted by the newly ordained priests for their respective guests. The celebration was colourful and joyful, with an atmosphere filled with excitement, thanksgiving and gratitude to God for the gift of three new priests to His Church.
We heartily congratulate our newly ordained, as well as the entire Catholic Diocese of Uromi on this great blessing.
We also sincerely appreciate and congratulate their parents, siblings, relatives, sponsors, friends, formators and all those who, in one way or another, supported and accompanied them on their journey to the priesthood.
May Almighty God grant our new priests the grace to remain faithful to their vocation and bless them with a fruitful, holy and effective ministry in His vineyard.
