The faithful of the Catholic Diocese of Uromi converged at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Ebhoiyi-Uromi on Saturday, 10th August 2019, to celebrate the Grand Finale of the annual Diocesan Family Week. It was a weeklong program, organized through the different levels of the Family and Human Life Unit. Activities took place on parish and mass centre levels across the Diocese of Uromi from the 4th-9th of August, 2019. These included health lectures and services such as testing for blood sugar level, high blood pressure, hospital visitations, clean-ups, and seminar. Other activities like prayers, sports, recreation, entertainment and outings were organized to enhance and promote the value and quality of life, marriage and the family.
At the Grand finale, his Lordship, Most Rev. Dr. Donatus Ogun, the Catholic bishop of the Diocese of Uromi, welcomed the clergy and parishioners from all corners of the Diocese, particularly the couples that were being recognised and honoured for longevity in Catholic Marriage. Three couples were recognised and honoured for their golden jubilee in marriage, while eleven were recognised and honoured for their silver jubilee of marital life. They all renewed their marital vows and were presented with certificates of merit.
In his homily, Rev. Fr. Kelvin Ibhaze commended the couples for remaining steadfast in their marital commitment and enjoined them to pass on the invaluable experience to the younger generation. He reinstated that the Church and the society would be better if the marriage institution remained strong and alive to its responsibility of parenting and inculcating moral values.
The Bishop also used the occasion to present the 2nd edition of the Diocesan Marriage Preparation Course for the general use of the faithful in the Diocese. The booklet which was prepared by the Family and Human Life Unit was reviewed by Prof. Mrs. Bridget Inegbeboh, a marriage counsellor and member of Family and Human Life Unit, St. Patrick’s unit.
The celebration concluded with interactions, reception and refreshments after the Holy Mass at the social Centre of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.
May God bless our families.
