November 24, 2015, was exactly one year since the demise of Very Rev. Fr Raphael Amansowoman. To mark the event, a Mass of the memorial was organized by the diocese. The Mass held at St Matthew Catholic Church, Eidenu – Irrua, at 4:30pm. Fr Amansowoman was the Parish Priest of St Matthew until his death.
The Mass which was presided over by the Dean of Okpebho Deanery, Very Rev. Fr Dr Patrick Ebhote, who represented Bishop Ogun, who was away on other pressing pastoral commitment.
The event witnessed a huge turnout of the clergy and laity of both the parish and diocese. Until his death, Fr Amansowoman belonged to the Okpebho Deanery.
In the homily, Rev. Fr Augustine Ebosele appreciated God for the life of Fr Amansowoman and prayed the Lord to continue to keep him. He thanked the parishioners of St Matthew for their inspiring love and support to Fr Amansowoman while he was still their parish priest. He enjoined all to keep in mind their priests in their prayers, for “uneasy lies the head that wears the crown”. Finally he urged all to leave after the mind of Christ, so that should death visit us at the appointed time, we may gladly embrace it to the glory of God.
