On the 22nd day of July, 2017 saw the graduation ceremony of a prestigious and amiable academy – Holy Innocents School, Ugboha. It is an academic institution owned by St. Denis Catholic Church, Ugboha, Uromi diocese.
The auspicious ceremony started with the Holy Mass which has as its chief celebrant, Rev. Fr. Dr. Benjamin Ogbeifun, who is the Parish Priest of St. Denis, Ugboha, as well as the Administrator of the Holy Innocents Nursery and Primary School. Also was the con-celebrating priest – Rev Fr. Amos Abhulimen, the Assistant priest of St Denis, as well as principal of Holy Innocents Secondary school.
Indeed there were distinguished guest at the ceremony, the parents of the pupils and students led by the PTA chairman as well as the staff, students and graduands. Indeed it was a moment of joy for the Ugboha community as well as the entire school as this prestigious school graduated 18 pupils from KG 3; 18pupils from primary 6; 28 students from JSS 3 and 7 students from SS 3, which totals 71 graduands.
During the Holy Mass, Rev Fr. Amos Abhulimen in his homily emphasised on the level of ignorance amongst children in our contemporary world. He addressed the parents that it is their duty to make the life of their children to be better than theirs, and the one sure way to make this possible is only through quality education. According to him, education is the best investment and gift we can give to our children, hence, the only way to set them free from the land of ignorance and captivity is only through education. He equally spoke to the graduands that they must prove that they have acquired knowledge from Holy Innocents School by being shining light to others. He added that wherever they go, they must lead for others to follow.
Furthermore, gifts were shared to all the graduands and the presentation was done by both priests. During the course of the reception which was anchored by our Seminarians – Brothers Joshua Obeahon and Abraham Egbele, there were cultural display, kingdom dance, step dance, bible recitation and other well packaged and thrilling entertainment which was done by the angelic pupils and students of the afore mentioned school.
In addition, awards were given to the best students in the Junior and Secondary school session, as well as the first three best students in each of the classes. After the award, the principal Rev Fr. Amos Abhulimen gave a vote of thanks and officially declared the 2016/2017 academic session close, he further informed all of next session’s resumption date which is the 11th day of September, 2017. Thereafter, he gave the closing prayer with the benediction.
