On Sunday, 9 December 2018 His Lordship, Most. Rev. Donatus Ogun, Bishop of Uromi Diocese erected a new Mass centre at Uroh Uzea. On that day, St. Francis Catholic Church, which till then was an out-station under St. Denis Parish, Ugboha gained pastoral autonomy by becoming an autonomous Mass Centre with two priests residing in the community to administer the Church. The Mass Centre was entrusted to the pastoral care of the Claretian Missionary Fathers. Rev. Fr. Patrick Ugwu, CMF and Rev. Fr. Sunday Ogom, CMF are the pioneer priests of this congregation to administer the Church.
In his words of welcome on this auspicious occasion, the Bishop thanked God for his mercy. He appreciated the people of Uzea for keeping the faith that was planted many decades ago when the first missionaries visited Uzea community for the purpose of evangelization.
With this new autonomous Mass Centre, Uromi Diocese now has 43 Parishes/Autonomous Mass Centres. God has indeed been very gracious to Uromi Diocese. May his holy name be blessed forever more. May He continue to strengthen our dear Bishop, the Clergy, Consecrated Persons and the Lay Faithful of the Diocese that all may find the strength to keep working to build up God’s kingdom in Esanland and beyond.
