As part of the effort of the chaplains and executives of Uromi diocesan CYON to rebuilding and restructuring the organization, they have established a special outreach committee to reach out to parishes with inactive youths especially parishes, mass centres and stations in the rural areas. To this end, a three man committee headed by Bro. Castro Steven Okhueleigbe has been constituted. In the light of this, the committee on Sunday 13th of July 2017 at a CYON diocesan general meeting at Gregory the great Catholic Church Ekpoma has swung into action and in less than a month of her establishment has mobilized men and resources to hold the first and ever and ever outreach program in Uzea.
At arrival, participants rolled themselves into a holy rampage to create awareness of their presence through a candle light procession at Olinlin Community of Uzea. Immediately after that, there was a special fire night which served as light for participants to raise special prayer points for the youth group in a prayer section led by the chairman of the committee and the provincial vice President of the organization Sir Anthony Oriabure.
More so, the climax of the night was reached during the interactive segment titled “how to make CYON take its pride of place among other youth groups in the church”.
In line with arrangement, the Sunday of it was the deal day. Participants were please to meet and celebrate with the locals in the Sunday service led by the Station Catechist of the host station Mr. Benjamin Okoimisi of St Augustine Catholic Church, Olinlin Uzea.
It was awesome when the youths danced in great dexterity to the alter for a thanksgiving immediately after the Sunday service. The diocesan president Bro Abraham Iyekere addressed the congregation in a comprehensible language and a soft tone. While speaking, he said the youths remain the future of any society and for the youth to grow that they need the constant encouragement and support of their parents. According to him, “to pursue a true destiny the youths need to deviate from the pursuit of futility”. He certainly expressed joy for meeting the faithful of the station in great number and also registered his displeasure for non availability of a priest based on the agreement reached with the clergies.
More after, the visiting youths engaged in a discussion section with the youths of the host station. While advising the latter, the chairman of the committee admonished them that to succeed in our present generation one must emancipate oneself from the shackles of primitiveness and timidity. Clearly emphasizing on the fact that living in the village is not a hindrance to the realization of a true destiny. He said. To be
sociable, one must go out to relate with people from different backgrounds. He challenged them to make efforts to be active in CYON activities at all levels and they will be glad they did.
Conclusively, a six man cabinet was constituted to pilot the affairs in the station till when elections is possible and the program was however adjourned to Ewosa mass centre sometime in September, 2017.
