Sunday 18th June, 2017 was a day of joy and jubilation for the parish priest, Very Rev. Fr. Patrick Ebhote and the entire parishioners of Nativity of Mary Catholic Church, Uhiele Ekpoma as the Chief Shepherd of Uromi Diocese, Most Rev. Dr. Donatus Ogun visited the Parish and administered the Sacrament of Confirmation to 83 candidates. The visit was also a part of his effort to encourage and stir up the faith of the faithful in the parish and diocese at large.
In his welcome address to the Bishop, the Parish Priest thanked his Lordship for creating time to come to the parish in spite of his tight schedule. He also noted that the visit was the third visit of his Lordship since he assumed office as the Chief Shepherd of the Diocese. The other two occasions were his ‘thank you’ and familiarization visit after his Episcopal ordination and the blessing of the Church’s tabernacle and foundation stone laying ceremony of the Nativity of Mary Catholic Nursery/Primary School.
Bishop Donatus Ogun admonished the faithful to always seek God’s face in all their endeavors no matter the circumstance or condition they may be in. He avouched that God in his infinite mercy will never forsake his faithful. He further urged every Catholic faithful to always seek reconciliation with God and with the Church through the sacrament of penance when they sin so as to enable them receive Jesus worthily in every celebration of the Holy Mass.
The Bishop congratulated the 83 candidates on their reception of the Sacrament of Confirmation and enumerated its benefits or effects as follows: making us strong; making us soldiers of Christ and perfect Christians. As soldiers of Christ, he said, we must be ready to defend the faith come rain or sunshine. The newly confirmed later made their thanksgiving to God for the grace to be enlisted among the soldiers of Christ.
