ANNUAL DIVINE MERCY PILGRIMAGE AND DIACONATE ORDINATION April 25, 2023 Diocese of Uromi Diocesan News It was a beautiful day to remember in the diocese of Uromi as Christ’s Faithful gathered at Mercy Shrine in Usugbenu, Irrua for her annual Divine Mercy Pilgrimage. His Lordship, the Most Rev. Dr. Donatus Ogun welcomed all present and thanked God for the opportunity to celebrate the abundance of God’s mercy. He equally thanked God who in His great Mercy has chosen some of our brothers, in the persons of Augustus Osajie Oseyomon, Gabriel Umuenyen Osahon, Jude Osarobo Eriaremien, Isidore Okoeguale Oselumhense, and Philip Omonua Osamudiamen, to be raised to the Order of Diaconate. He maintained that the greatest manifestation of God’s mercy is the birth of His Son and the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. He prayed that the face of God’s mercy may continually shine upon all. The Homilist, Rev. Fr. Christopher Ojeaga emphasized the importance of God’s mercy in the life of Christ’s faithful. Everyone needs God’s mercy, he said. In His mercy, God gives strength to the weak and He sustains them in their strength. The homilist alluded to the diary of St. Maria Faustina, stating that for humanity to be saved they must trust in the mercy of God. The positive consequence should be that the receivers of God’s mercy must be channels by which people come to the ocean of God’s mercy. Reiterating what His Lordship said, Rev. Fr. Christopher Ojeaga said God’s greatest mercy is in the resurrection of Our Lord Jesus, and as such the children of God need not be fearful about anything but trust in God’s mercy in everything and every situation of life. He encouraged all present to always trust in the mercy of God that does not mislead and forsake His own. Addressing the ordinands, Fr. Ojeaga asserted that God has chosen them out of His merciful love to reflect His mercy to people. He encouraged them to always submit to God’s mercy wherever they find themselves, and they are to be agents and workers of peace and harmony which Jesus, who is mercy Himself epitomizes for His people. He finally beckoned on the members of Christ’s faithful to cultivate the habits of forgiving offenders as God in His mercy continually forgives our offences. To conclude the solemn event, the Chaplet of Divine Mercy was recited and thereafter His Lordship thanked greatly those who have contributed immensely to the growth and development of the Divine Mercy Centre. In the same vein, he appreciated the families and parishes where the ordinands were birthed and nurtured in the faith. Finally, he thanked everyone present at the pilgrimage and prayed that God should continually show them His mercy. Thereafter the plenary indulgence was given by the bishop to those who were penitent in heart and had truly confessed their sins to God and received the Holy Eucharist.
