Water is very essential to life. This fact makes the event of the construction of a Borehole by Annunciation Catholic Church (ACC Parish) Irrua very remarkable. The Borehole was commissioned by His Lordship, Most Rev. Dr. Donatus A. Ogun, the bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Uromi. It was a day of double blessing as the Parish equally hosted the Priests in the Diocese for their 2nd All-Priests meeting for the year 2017. This meeting took place at the Rev. Fr. Matthew O’Connel Social centre
While the Parishioners prayed the Rosary inside Church, the executives of the Parish Pastoral Council led by the vice Chairman, Dr. O.D. Ikidi (KSM) went to the Social centre to welcome the priests. In his address of welcome he thanked the Chief shepherd and his Priests for having the ACC Parishioners in mind. This was followed by personal introduction of the Pastoral council Exco members to the Chief shepherd and his Priests. On behalf of the Priests in session, Very Rev. Fr. Francis Okha thanked the pastoral Council Exco.
The chief shepherd, the Priests and Parishioners then proceeded to the site of the borehole for its blessing and commissioning. The Scriptural text was read by the host Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Simon Peter Osinde. It was taken from the Gospel of St. John chapter 4 which centres on the encounter between Jesus Christ and the Samaritan woman at the well where Jesus presented himself as the living water. The Borehole was blessed and formally commissioned by His Lordship after which he equally cut the tape to signify that the borehole is open for the use of all. There are water supply outlets both within and outside the church compound for those in need of water in the community. There is no gain saying that ACC has, by this act, contributed to solving water problems in the immediate community. After the final blessing the bishop and the priests went back to the social centre to continue the meeting.
It is clearly observed that Annunciation Catholic Church Compound, Irrua is making giant strides in terms of development. The parishioners were joyful by the presence of the Bishop in their midst and the rare blessing they received from him. On that eventful day, the church compound was resplendent with the presence of the Parish Marshals who were vested in their elegant outfits controlling traffic. With the advent of parish marshals cars are now orderly parked during Masses and other days of celebrations. The CWO members were in their uniforms to grace the occasion.
