The Diocese of Uromi gathered to pray for the repose of deceased priests and religious who served in Esanland. The Mass was attended by Christ’s faithful and began with the naming of the departed priests and religious. The Most Rev. Dr. Donatus Ogun welcomed everyone and expressed gratitude for the lives of those who had planted the faith in Esan land. Reverends Philip Omonua and Isidor Okoeguale chanted the Office of the Dead, and readings and the Gospel were taken and proclaimed. The Homilist, Rev. Fr. Fidelis Arhedo, spoke about the eternal journey of faithful servants of God and emphasized the hope of resurrection. He highlighted the sacrifices made by priests and religious in their ministries and apostolates. Christians were urged to pray for the souls of the departed and live lives worthy of their baptismal calling. The Mass proceeded with general intercession, offertory, consecration, and the reception of Holy Communion. The Vicar General, Very Rev. Fr Francis Omolumen thanked everyone present and called for a massive turnout subsequently. In the same vein, the Most Rev. Dr. Donatus Ogun expressed gratitude and acknowledged everyone present who made the sacrifice to be present while he did not forget to acknowledge the challenges faced by attendees. He emphasized that the gathering was not just a memorial but also a celebration of the faith passed on, urging a communion with the faithful departed. The Mass concluded with prayers at the cemetery and a final benediction by the Most Rev. Dr. Donatus Ogun.
