The presence of a priest in any community is always a thing of great joy because of the being and mission of a priest in the Church and in the society. A priest is a man who, having been called by God and vested with sacred powers, acts in persona Christi. This close association of a priest to the person and mission of Christ in whose person he acts is what makes him very relevant in the church and in the society.
The faithful of St Bridget Catholic Church, Okalo earnestly desire that a priest dwell with them. For this reason, they have embarked on building a Father’s house. St Bridget Catholic Church, Okalo is an out-station of St John The Baptist Parish, Ogwa. The foundation stone for the new Father’s house was laid on Saturday 21st July 2018 by Very Rev. Fr Francis Omonlumen, the Vicar General of Uromi Diocese in the presence of the Parish Priest, Very Rev. Fr Francis Okhah and the faithful of St Bridget Catholic Church who came out en masse for this august occasion.
During the ceremony, the Vicar General who received a mandate from the Bishop of Uromi Diocese, Most Rev. Donatus Ogun to carry out this function conveyed the greetings of His Lordship to the faithful. He noted that the Bishop would have been with them in person for this ceremony but due to his other Pastoral engagements, he had to send him. He admonished them to inform their children both at home and abroad about the project so they could join hands in building for the Lord.
After the foundation stone was laid, the Parish Priest thanked the Bishop and the Vicar General for coming to carry out this assignment. He equally appreciated the parishioners who were very enthusiastic on this occasion. At the end of the ceremony, the faithful of St Bridget Catholic Church had a group photograph with their Parish Priest and the Vicar General.
May Almighty God bless this project that, in no distant time, it may be brought to completion. May the Lord grant the desire of the faithful who passionately yearn to enjoy the blessings that flow from the presence of a priest in the community. Amen
