Sunday 2nd July, 2017 remains a memorable day in the hearts of all the parishioners of St Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, Ewossa. On that day, they celebrated the feast Day of their Patron Saint, St Peter the Apostle. It was the first time to celebrate their Patron’s feast day in such a unique and glamorous manner since they became a Mass Centre a few months ago, to be precise, on the 28th of January, 2017.
On the day of the celebration, the Church was filled to capacity by parishioners beautifully dressed in their new Mass Centre cloth. The celebration started with the Holy Mass presided over by the Priest-in-Charge, Rev. Fr. Christopher Ehidiamhen. The Mass was concelebrated by Very Rev. Fr. Daniel Ewah, Rev. Fr. Michael Akhighu and Rev. Fr. Living Joseph Okosun. In his homily centred on the need to be worthy of the Kingdom of God, Very Rev. Fr. Daniel Ewah noted that we must not love our father, mother, son or daughter more than God. Quoting copiously from the Sacred Scripture, he urged the people to emulate the life of a woman who,
through her hospitality to strangers housed a man of God she did not know before, the Prophet Elisha. He also cited Abraham, who by welcoming strangers got rewarded as he was given a son at his old age. He admonished Christians not to give up in the service of God even in the face of difficulties, as we can only get the reward when we persevere.
The occasion was also used to inaugurate the newly elected excos of the Parish Pastoral Council, Parish Finance Council and Parish Laity Council with a charge to work for the growth of the Church.
At the end of the Eucharistic Celebration, there was reception for all the guests in the Church premises. It featured interesting dances by cultural troupes from the Mass Centre, (St. Peter Catholic Church, Ewossa), St. Christopher Catholic Church, and Sacred heart Catholic Church from Ekpon. There was also a rendition of a beautiful song by Miss Uche Alekwe eulogizing the Priest-in-charge, Rev. Fr. Christopher Ehidiamhen for his sterling leadership qualities and tireless efforts in running the Church
In attendance at this auspicious celebration were Engr. Isacc Iyamu with his amiable wife who have been very supportive to the Church, H.R.H. Zaiki Aidelogie I, the Onogie of Ewossa Kingdom, Sir Godday Ebereye, Pa Simon Idonbhor, the Odionwele of Ewossa Kingdom and Prince Godwin Omojiade, the feast day Committee Chairman.
