The Catholic diocese of Uromi is blessed and privileged to have within its geographical territory several Universities and higher Institutions. “Knowledge”, as the renowned English Philosopher, Francis Bacon asserts, “is power.” This power is indispensable for transformation, growth and integral development. Over the years, like many young men and women who come from different parts of Nigeria to acquire knowledge in these institutions, many priests and religious have also come for the same purpose, especially to Ekpoma where the State University, Ambrose Alli University is situated.
One of the challenges these priests and religious have had to put up with is the issue of accommodation. To this end, the pastoral solicitude of the Chief Shepherd of Uromi diocese, Most Rev. Dr Donatus Ogun, O.S.A., for the welfare of Priests and Religious who come to Ekpoma for studies made him to conceive the necessity of a Guest house project within the premises of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma to meet the accommodation needs of Priests and Religious who are in Ekpoma or will need to come to Ekpoma from different parts of Nigeria for the purpose of studies at the Ambrose Alli University.
The foundation stone for this Guest house was laid on Tuesday 18th July, 2017 by his Lordship Most Rev. Dr Donatus Ogun, O.S.A. in the presence of the Chaplain of St Patrick Catholic Chaplaincy, Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Very Rev. Fr Prof. Anthony Echekwube, some other priests as well as some of the Students who worship at the Chaplaincy. The foundation stone laying ceremony was preceded by a prayer of blessing of the New Building site. The Guest house which will comprise a Twenty-four room apartment, as wells as a Chapel, Kitchen, Dining and other facilities, when realized, will be very beneficial to the group of persons for which it was conceived, their dioceses/religious congregations and institutes as well as to the University community. The project is under the supervision of Very Rev. Fr Dr Fidelis Arhedo and Fr Paul Akhare.
While we thank God for his blessings we ask that he will bring this project to completion in no distant time by providing all that is necessary for its realization. May he continue to bless our Chief Shepherd for his visionary leadership and sustain the efforts of his collaborators.
