As part of the activities lined up to celebrate the Extra-Ordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy in the Diocese of Uromi for the spiritual uplift of the both clergy and lay faithful, June 22, 2016 witnessed a large turnout of Priests at the Cathedral Church of St Anthony, Uromi, the location of the diocesan Mercy Door, who gathered to take part in the spiritual exercise of pilgrimage through the Mercy Door.
The event, which began at 9:00 AM, started with the Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament and meditation. This lasted for 30 minutes. At 9:30 AM, the 20 Decades of the Rosary prayer began. This went simultaneously with the Sacrament of Confession
At 11:00 AM, there was a spiritual talk delivered by Very Rev. Fr Dr Peter Egbe. In the talk, Fr Egbe reminded the priests that priests, who are dispensers of God’s mercy and sanctifying grace as necessary part of their divine calling also need God’s mercy and sanctifying grace in the exercise of their ministry. He admonished all to make conscious efforts to seek and gain these graces in the course of their ministry.
Furthermore, Fr Egbe admonished all to find a space in their hearts to forgive those who may have offended them in the course of the execution of their priestly duties.
The talk ended with the pray of the Angelus and afterwards, in their full regalia for the Mass, all the priests processed solemnly through the Mercy Door to the sanctuary for the Mass which was presided over by His Lordship, Most Rev. Donatus Ogun, at 12 noon.
In his homily at the Mass, Rev. Fr Dr Paul Abhulimen from the Seminary of All Saints, Uhiele urged all to see the event as a time of cleansing and re-dedication to God the priestly ministry and urged all to maximize the spiritual benefits derivable from the event.
