On Sunday, May 11th, 2025, the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Atani-Uromi, was the place to be. The air was rich with anticipation as the Uromi Deanery Choir held its maiden Easter Cantata themed Christus Regnant (Christ Reigns), a musical celebration of Christ’s victory over sin and death. And what a glorious evening it was!
A Choir Dressed to Sing and Dazzle

From the moment they processed in, you could tell this wasn’t going to be your regular church event. The choir, elegantly dressed in black with a tasteful touch of gold, carried themselves with a quiet confidence. Their voices, perfectly blended, filled the church with soul-lifting hymns and choral pieces. Every song was a story, every harmony a prayer. From traditional Easter hymns to contemporary choral masterpieces, the Uromi Deanery Choir gave us a performance that was nothing short of divine.
Fr. Kelvin Ibhaze: A Chaplain with a Passion

A special mention must go to the Deanery Chaplain, Rev. Fr. Kelvin Ibhaze, whose tireless commitment to the success of the Cantata was evident in every detail. From planning to execution, Fr. Kelvin was the quiet force ensuring everything ran smoothly. His passion for liturgical music and his dedication to bringing people together through worship shone brightly all through the evening.
The Hosts and the Guests: A Family Affair

The Sacred Heart Mass Centre, Atani, under the leadership of Rev. Fr. Dr. Julius Ekoh, provided a warm and welcoming venue for this spiritual feast. Fr. Ekoh’s calm and fatherly presence set the tone for an atmosphere of reverence and celebration.
It was also heartening to see several priests grace the event, lending their support and presence. Rev. Fr. Benjamin Uduebholo stood in for the Bishop of Uromi Diocese, Most Rev. Dr. Donatus Ogun, OSA. Other priests who came to support included Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Okparoacha, SDV, Rev. Fr. Peter Ebalunegbeifo, Rev. Fr. Mike Okafor, SMA, and yours truly, Rev. Fr. Kevin Anetor. Truly, it felt like a family reunion of sorts, with clergy and laity united in one voice of praise.
Seminarians and Students: The Future is Bright
The evening wasn’t just about the Deanery Choir. The Seminarians from the Major Seminary of All Saints, Uhiele-Ekpoma, took the celebration to another level with a breathtaking horns performance by their musical group, Symphoenix. Their instrumental rendition was powerful, soulful, and a testament to the great musical talents nurtured in our seminaries.
Adding a dramatic touch to the Cantata, the students of Ufua Memorial Catholic Educational Centre presented a gripping biblical drama. They brought to life the Passion of Our Lord, depicting the suffering and crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Their presentation was not only moving but also reminded everyone of the true meaning of Easter, the ultimate sacrifice that redeemed humanity from sin.
Acts of Generosity and Support
It is worthy of note that several invited guests, moved by the beauty and spiritual depth of the event, offered generous donations to support the Uromi Deanery Choir. Their contributions will go a long way in encouraging the choir’s efforts and ensuring the continuity of such laudable initiatives in the future.
A Celebration to Remember
The maiden Uromi Deanery Easter Cantata was more than just a musical concert, it was a celebration of faith, community, and the enduring power of the Resurrection message. Through music, drama, and fellowship, the event brought together people of all walks of life in a shared experience of joy and spiritual upliftment.
As the voices of the choir echoed one last time within the walls of Sacred Heart Mass Centre, Atani, one could sense that this was the beginning of a beautiful tradition.
