With hearts full of gratitude and joy, the Catholic faithful of Orekhie-Ohordua gathered on the 31st of August, 2025, to celebrate the Blessing of the Church and Dedication of the Altar at St. Peter Catholic Church, Orekhie, a remarkable project made possible through the generous donation of the family of Ewanehi.
The donors not only built a beautiful church edifice but also constructed a Marian Grotto dedicated to Our Lady Undoer of Knots, which has already begun to attract growing devotion among the Catholic faithful in the area.
The celebration began at 10:00 AM with the Holy Mass, during which the dedication of the altar was solemnly performed by the bishop. The liturgical event was marked by a profound sense of reverence and spiritual joy. In attendance were numerous clergy, including monsignors and priests, several religious men and women, members of the Knights of St. John International, and seven Enijies (kings), notably including the King of Ohordua.
In his homily, the bishop offered profound spiritual guidance and pastoral exhortation. He emphasized on the need for respect and reverence for the House of God, urging the faithful to be fully present at Mass — not only physically, but also mentally and spiritually — and to avoid distractions, especially from mobile phones.
The Bishop commended the family of the donor, and encouraged others to emulate their generosity towards the good of the Church.
In a symbolic act, the keys of the newly completed church were presented by the donors to the bishop, who in turn handed them over to the Priest-in-Charge, Rev. Fr. Isidore Omondeagbon, officially entrusting him with the pastoral care of the church and its people.
Following the Mass, a formal award of honour was presented to Sir Solomon and Lady Nancy Ewanehi and Family by Rev. Fr. Isidore Omondeagbon and members of the St. Peter Catholic Church community in recognition of their extraordinary act of faith and generosity.
The celebration continued with the blessing of the Marian Grotto dedicated to Our Lady Undoer of Knots, also conducted by the bishop. This sacred space stands as a symbol of hope and intercession, and it is already becoming a spiritual landmark for Marian devotion in the community.
The entire celebration was a beautiful witness to faith, unity, and generous service to God and humanity. The dedication of St. Peter Catholic Church, Orekhie-Ohordua, marks a significant milestone in the spiritual life of the Catholic community in Ohordua and beyond. With grateful hearts, the faithful pray that this church and the Marian Grotto will continue to be places of prayer, healing, and divine encounter for generations to come.
