It was a joyful and spirit-filled celebration as the parishioners of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, Emuhi-Ekpoma, welcomed the Chief Shepherd of the Diocese, Most Rev. Donatus Ogun, OSA, on Sunday, 3rd August 2025.
The Bishop was received with heartfelt singing and dancing by the faithful, led by the Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Alexander Ononwanse. The Holy Mass commenced at 10:00 a.m., with Bishop Ogun as the Chief Celebrant, assisted by Rev. Fr. Ononwanse and the Bishop’s Secretary, Rev. Fr. Benjamin Uduebholo.
A major highlight of the celebration was the administration of the Sacrament of Confirmation to 53 candidates, marking a significant spiritual milestone for the young faithful. In his homily, Bishop Ogun charged the newly confirmed to live as true soldiers of Christ. He emphasized the need for all Christians to embrace suffering and pain endured for Christ as part of true Gospel witnessing.
In the course of the liturgy, the Bishop also blessed and installed the Tabernacle in the Church, a sacred space for the reservation of the Blessed Sacrament. In addition, he blessed the newly installed statue of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception, further enriching the spiritual and devotional life of the parish.
In his remarks, Rev. Fr. Alexander Ononwanse, on behalf of the entire parish community, expressed profound gratitude to God for His blessings and thanked the Bishop for honoring the parish with his presence, despite the challenging state of the roads leading to Emuhi.
In his closing words, Bishop Ogun appreciated the parishioners for their warm reception, faith, and commitment to the growth of the Church. He prayed for God’s continued blessings, progress, and development upon the land and people of Emuhi.
