STRENGTHENING THE SHEPHERDS-THE PRIESTS OF UROMI DIOCESE GATHER FOR ANNUAL RETREAT

Report by The Witness Editorial Board

With the desire for a renewed spirit for authentic Pastoral Ministry, the priests of Uromi Diocese gathered at Brother Roman Catechetical Center, Ekpoma for their Annual All Priests Retreat. The 6 days retreat which took place from 17th August to 22nd of August, 2025 was a sacred time for spiritual renewal, fraternal communion, and pastoral reflection. In an era of profound pastoral challenges and changing realities within the Church and society, this retreat offered our priests a space of silence, discernment, and deeper intimacy with Christ.

The retreat facilitator, Very Rev. Fr. (Dr.) Michael Oyanoafoh, the chancellor of the Archdiocese of Benin City, took the priests on a voyage of reflections to help deepen their commitment to the priestly identity and vocation. And also helping the priests to create a space for prayerful listening to the Holy Spirit and to one another, and to strengthen fraternity and unity among priests in the Diocese.
The retreat also provided more pastoral insights and encouragement for effective ministry in the coming year.

Highlights of the retreat program include: Daily Eucharistic Celebration and Adoration, Lectures and reflections on the Priesthood and Priestly ministry, Meditations, Communal and Personal Prayer, Sacrament of Reconciliation.

The medication team of the diocese was available to enable the priests access medical care during the period of the retreat.

More importantly the retreat offered priests an opportunity to step away from the demands of pastoral ministry, listen to the voice of the Holy Spirit, and to strengthen their resolve to serve the faithful with renewed zeal and pastoral effectiveness.
